Stanford, CA - In an exciting development for the Stanford Ice Hockey team, former professional player Alex Hult has been appointed as the new head coach. The announcement came on Monday, October 9, marking a significant step for the Cardinal hockey program.
Hult brings a wealth of experience to the position, having been drafted by the San Jose Sharks in 2003 and playing professionally for ten years overseas in countries including the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden. Beyond his on-ice achievements, he is also renowned as a successful restaurateur, notably for founding Flights Restaurants.
Upon his appointment, Hult expressed his eagerness to assess the skill levels of the Cardinal players and begin crafting a practice plan tailored to their needs. When asked how he plans to get started, Hult put it simply, "By putting one foot in front of the other and keep going. We never give up and we don't stop until we get to where we want to go." The first week in his new role will be dedicated to evaluating the team and laying the foundation for a successful season.
Winston Adams, Director for Sport and Youth Programs at Stanford University and a seasoned manager of collegiate club hockey teams, confident in the appointment, highlighting Hult's experience and enthusiasm. Adams stated, "It's the enthusiasm and genuine excitement with the opportunity that makes me feel good about the season ahead. Alex has a lot of wisdom developed on and off the ice that can be a great resource to our players as students and as athletes."
The Stanford Ice Hockey team is equally enthusiastic about having Hult at the helm. As they gear up for their first game against Santa Clara University on Friday, November 3, the players are optimistic about the positive impact Hult's expertise will bring to their performance and growth on the ice. Senior forward and president of Stanford Club Ice Hockey,
Joshua Kim, said, "Alex brings extensive hockey experience that I think really inspires the players…I can already sense that the players highly respect him and when he talks, everyone listens."
Although Hult does not have prior connections to Stanford University or its hockey program, his extensive background in hockey and entrepreneurship positions him as a valuable asset to the team as they embark on a new season.
The Cardinal community eagerly anticipates the strategic direction and guidance that Coach Hult will provide, looking forward to exciting days ahead under his leadership.
