Club Sports is a program within Recreation and Wellness under the Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation (DAPER) with a designated Club Sports Administration.
The Stanford Club Sport Administration oversees the membership application process, assists member organizations with navigating University administrative processes including risk management and budgetary issues, provides support to the Club Sport Executive Council, works closely with the Office of Community Standards (OCS) to handle disciplinary issues of member organizations, and provides guidance within the administrative points system.
The program allows Stanford students to compete against athletes from other colleges and universities. Alongside competition and performance, Club Sports place an emphasis on student initiative, leadership, and team management, allowing participants to shape their own experience.
Our staff works hand-in-hand with the Office of Student Engagement under Student Affairs. All member sport teams in the Club Sport Program are, first and foremost, registered student organizations with the Office of Student Engagement at a fundamental level. While club teams may experience dual reporting lines to OSE and Club Sports/DAPER, the Club Sports staff is ultimately responsible for the direct oversight and supervision of these teams. Teams must meet compliance standards with OSE standards in order to maintain good standing in the Club Sports Program.
Club Sport Program Assistants are employed part-time by the Club Sport Program to provide administrative support to all member club sport teams. Clubs are required to provide information requested by the Club Sport Program Assistants for administrative deadlines.
What is a Club Sport?
A Club Sport is a registered Voluntary Student Organization that has been formed for the purpose of competing and/or participating in a particular sport. Club Sports are student-initiated, student-led, and student-managed, providing an opportunity for the development of leadership and life skills that contribute to the student collegiate experience and beyond.
Student Organization Constitution
A constitution is designed to establish a long-term structure and scope for a student organization as approved and should outlast the group’s current members. Required components are below. Other items may be added as appropriate, but they must be approved by the university before implementation.
- All recognized student organizations are expected to faithfully follow all aspects of their approved constitution, including purpose and scope of activities. Expansion of activities and scope is not guaranteed and can only occur after review and approval by the university.
- Our Club Sport Office and OSE expect transparency about how your organization is run. All organization constitutions are open to the Stanford community through CardinalSync. Your group’s constitution and membership requirements must be posted on your website. The Club Sport Office recommends each team review their organization’s constitution on an annual basis.
