Stanford Men's Rugby vs. UC Davis
Steuber Rugby Stadium
Stanford, Calif.
West Coast 7s — Semi Final
Stanford 26, UC Davis 31
Stanford lost a narrow battle to UC Davis in the Semi Finals of West Coast 7s. The Cardinal went down 7-19 at the half to come back to tie the match with a minute remaining. A pair of tries by Julian Safos and a critical try by Louis De Germay de Cirfontaine to cut the Davis lead to a try with 2-minutes remaining led to an exciting finish to what was a physical battle by the two squads.
Following a penalty to the Cardinal just 5-meters from the tryline, a head up quick tap by Jacob Bethell set up Carter Kling in the corner of the tryzone. Kling, aware of the tight score, sprinted along the back of the tryzone towards the post. To bring the score to 24-26, kick to come. Patrick Kennedy stepped up and slotted the conversion, his second of the match, to even the match with less than 30 seconds remaining.
The Aggies returned the kick off with a line break and won the game in the last play. A stinging finish for the Cardinal who would look to face American River College for 3rd place, out of hardware contention for the tournament.
