Stanford Recreation

About

Rugby has been played at Stanford since 1906. The team consists both of players new to the game and those with experience prior to coming to Stanford—from the high school athlete looking to try something different in college to the international student who grew up playing his whole life. We welcome athletes of all experience levels. Many of our players learn rugby for the first time at Stanford.

Rugby is a game that utilizes the strengths of all body shapes and sizes. It is both challenging and rewarding. Those who play rugby develop life-long friendships, leadership skills, and strong personal character attributes. The game itself is fast-paced and exciting. All players are given the opportunity to pass, catch, kick, tackle, run and more!

The team competes locally, regionally, and nationally. Stanford has won National Championships and produced numerous collegiate All-Americans, National Team Players, and Olympic Medal Winners in rugby. Rugby enriches the lives of our student-athletes by developing skills in leadership, teamwork and mental toughness, providing the opportunity to compete in intercollegiate athletics and global tours, and the development of life-long friendships.
