Stanford Men's Rugby headed to UC Santa Cruz for a Rugby 7s tournament hosted by the Banana Slugs. The tournament featured 4 pools of 3 teams. The Cardinal faced the host team as well as San Jose State in pool play. The first match against UCSC was a thriller tied with no time remaining. UCSC would score with no time remaining. Match 2 featured a lineup with only two returning Stanford 7s players in Faris Bdair and Tom Adamo. San Jose's squad was rich in footwork and finishing speed.Â
The Semi-Final match found the Cardinal up against CSU Monterey Bay. Patrick Kennedy and Thomas Adamo would score in the first half. The latter, following a tackle & poach from Bdair who then offloaded to Adamo for his first of his hat trick. The score was tied 12-12 in a seemingly well-matched competition. The Cardinal dominated the 2nd half, putting up three more tries and two more conversions at the boot of Kennedy. The Cardinal would earn a spot in the Shield - Finals with the score of 31 - 17.
Despite a close match up in the Shield Final between conference rival Fresno State, a tied game 12-12 ended in favor of Fresno who scored in the last play of the game following sequential penalties on the Cardinal.Â
