The Cardinal hosted Vassar College for a Wednesday night match under the lights at Steuber Rugby Stadium. Vassar Women's Rugby, on a spring break tour to California from New York, set out to play the Cardinal midweek and the Banana Slugs over the weekend in Santa Cruz.

The evening did not disappoint as the sun set on a beautiful day on campus. The sky filled with hues of purple and pink as Stanford and Vassar took to the pitch for a friendly. The midweek game served as a preparation opportunity for the Cardinal, who will meet rivals Cal over the weekend.

The Cardinal found their groove in the first five minutes, with Emma Cruz '26 finding Journey Washingtonhigh '26 for the finish. Cara Feit '26 converted the try. In the 8th minute, the forwards—showing their versatility and skill—moved the ball through the hands to Kirsten Lees '27, who weaved and fended her way to the try line from 50 meters out. Chisa Ogaki '28 kicked the conversion to bring the score to 14–0.

The Cardinal maintained momentum, scoring again in the 12th and 16th minutes as hooker Audrey Kaplan and back row Jara Emtage-Cave enjoyed trips to the try zone. The latter came from a line break off a scrum from 40 meters out. Feit tallied both conversions. On the subsequent kickoff, Vassar kicked to flanker Sydney Davis, who used quick footwork to get outside the Vassar defense. With scrumhalf Vivian Studdert in support, Davis passed to Studdert for the finish.

The Cardinal were quick to regain control, making good on Vassar penalties. Karina Byzek quickly tapped at the Vassar 22 meters and moved the ball to Studdert, who found Emma Lewis '29 crashing through the defense on her way to the try zone.

The final try of the evening came from Lewis once again. A punishing run by Emtage-Cave set the Cardinal on the front foot, which made easy work for Studdert to find Lewis for the try. Anabella Hernandez '26 slotted the conversion for the 45–0 finish.

Vassar and Stanford enjoyed a social at the clubhouse following the match, a long-time rugby tradition that celebrates the respect and camaraderie of the sport. A huge thank you to Vassar College for visiting the Farm and for the midweek game as the Cardinal prepare for the weekend.

The team travels to Berkeley on Saturday to conclude regular season play. The Cardinal and rivals Cal will battle for a seed at CRAA D1 Regionals. Head to Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, CA, on Saturday, March 14 for a 2:30 PM kickoff against the Bears, with a B-side 10's match to follow.
