Stanford 104 – Fresno State 7
Stanford Women's Rugby kicked off Family Weekend on The Farm with a doubleheader against Fresno State. Marking the midway point of the season and Senior Day, the Cardinal came out fired up and carried strong momentum from a competitive match at Cal Poly the previous weekend. The program recognized seventeen seniors set to graduate this year, many of whom had the opportunity to play the match in front of family and friends.
The Cardinal started quickly, playing on the front foot from the opening minutes. Flyhalf Cara Feit '26 moved the team out of their red zone at the first sign of pressure. Stanford earned a scrum in the second minute after Fresno mishandled a Feit kick. A strong run from Feit and multiple carries from the forwards set up flanker Sydney Davis '26 for the try—her first of three on the day.
In the ninth minute, Kirsten Lees '27 stole a Fresno lineout. Quick hands from scrumhalf Vivian Studdert '28 through Zoe Colloredo-Mansfeld '26 to Feit found Journey Washingtonhigh '26 on the wing for her first of three tries in the match. Fullback Chisa Ogaki '28 converted for the extra two.
The Cardinal kept steady pressure as the Bulldogs attempted to manage kicks from Feit and Ogaki. Fresno's fullback challenged Stanford with strong counterattacks, responding in the territory battle. Stanford was quick to turn over Fresno ball at the breakdown, leading to two subsequent tries by Washingtonhigh and Davis.
Props Eva Liberman '26 and Elisabeth Holm '26 tallied positive meters with each of their carries. In the 30th minute, the strong platform created by the front row allowed Feit to find Lees on a sharp line through the defense for the try. Washingtonhigh completed her hat trick before halftime, leaving time for Lees to add her second try of the match. Feit added two more conversions for the Cardinal.
At the start of the second half, Washingtonhigh gathered a Fresno kick, setting the platform for the Cardinal forwards. Colloredo-Mansfeld challenged the defensive line and split the defense on a 45-meter run for the try. The senior lock converted her own score.
In the 59th minute, the Cardinal capitalized on another counterattack, with Emma Cruz '26 sliding in for the try. Feit added the conversion.
In the 65th minute, a Cardinal scrum inside the Bulldogs' 22-meter line set the stage for another attacking opportunity. The backs made good on the chance as Cruz found Anabella Hernandez '26 for the try. Shortly thereafter, fullback Josie Davidson—tasked with managing the backfield for Stanford in the second half—gathered a Fresno kick and linked with Davis on the return for her second try of the match.
Moments later, Cruz crossed the try line again as the Cardinal got creative with in-play kicking from unexpected players.
Off the subsequent kickoff, the Cardinal continued their free-flowing play after captain Leila Wang Gaouette '26 set up winger Isabelle McNabb '26 for a huge run down the sideline. Reserve scrumhalf Karina Byzek '29 quickly moved the ball to Wang Gaouette, who fended off two defenders before offloading to Paige Fitzpatrick '28. Fitzpatrick powered through three Fresno tacklers before Byzek moved the ball to Ogaki and then to Jacqui McLean '27 for the try.
In the 75th minute, Cruz rounded out her hat trick from an offload by Davidson. A couple of minutes later, Davidson added her name to the score sheet with a try and conversion of her own. Katherine Lai '26 finished the match with her first try and conversion in a conference match for the Cardinal, with her family watching from the stands.
Special recognition goes to the Stanford Women's Rugby Class of 2026, as well as to the three senior hat-trick heroes: Sydney "Spud" Davis from Idaho, Emma Cruz from Southern California, and Journey Washingtonhigh from Florida.
The team will travel to Chico State next weekend and will finish conference play with a trip to Cal on March 14 in a vital match-up with the Bears for playoff contention.
