Mere days before the open of the 2026 season, Stanford Club Baseball would like to announce the signing of Evan Schieber '25 to the head coaching position. Schieber was named Stanford's Gregory Block and Will Ogden Director of Baseball behind closed doors on January 1, 2026, becoming the 1st head coach in program history. He had been working with the squad since then, but both parties decided to delay the announcement of the move in an attempt to let the team focus on preparing for the season and minimize outside drama and distraction.
Stanford is hoping Schieber will bring the calming veteran demeanor and intelligent gamesmanship used to anchor the Cardinal through four very successful years on the field as the team's primary catcher. "Yeah.", responded junior outfielder Angel Villeraldo Amador when asked if he was excited to have Schieber at the helm for the season. "If you can't do, teach. And if you can't teach, coach Club Baseball", quipped team president Donnie Raymond when asked about the move to bring Schieber in as head coach. "In all seriousness", Raymond continued, "we're incredibly excited to have Evan on board this season…he and I have had a fantastic working relationship over the years and I can say with 100% certainty that he's the man for the job."
Though it's his first year, Coach Schieber claims to not feel any pressure heading into the 2026 campaign. "It's all a part of the game. The highs, the lows…I just want to help the team get better every day and get the most out of their abilities." Schieber also expressed gratitude for the opportunity and said he'll approach the job with humility. "It's just like anything in life. You have to work to get better. And my vow to the Cardinal faithful is that there'll be nobody in the NCBA Division Two landscape who will work harder to put their players in better positions than I will."
