2025 Spring Season Outlook:
At the conclusion of the 2025 club baseball season, the last remnants of the player core that revived Stanford Club Baseball will be broken up. There will be only one or two remaining who served under the tutelage of Ben Caven and who fought Herculean winds in Lancaster. Stanford Club Baseball's comeback, which started in the mid to late 2010s, saw the Cardinal go from a deflated program who had been demoted from Division I to a perennial powerhouse in Division II's Pacific-North. It saw Stanford go from a team that could barely field nine players to one who has made the regional tournament in three of the last four seasons.
Caden Denning,
Evan Schieber,
Gabe Seir,
Tomas Coghlan, and
Donnie Raymond are the few left who helped to cement Stanford's revival during the 2022 season in which Stanford went 17-0 in the regular season. Among the accolades of these five players are five All American and eight All Conference honors. This group looks to cement their legacy with one final ride together this spring.
But while 2025 will mark the conclusion of one remarkable era of Stanford Club Baseball, it marks the start of another era. For the hard work of Stanford Club Baseball's forefathers built a foundation that this new generation of players seeks to capitalize on. Stanford returns nine other high caliber contributors, in addition to the aforementioned five. This group features slick pitching from players like
Elijah Meltzer,
Nikhil Kothari, and
Chase Adams. Other players help pull together a well-rounded defense and lineup, such as
Angel Villeraldo Amador,
John Paul Aguilar,
Aaryan Shah,
Danny Park, and the wise and witty
Casey Oden.
These returning players will help to mentor one of the strongest rookie classes that Stanford has seen in years, a class that has similarities to the class about to graduate. This class features electric arms that the Cardinal will rely on for years to come, such as
Joseph Seddon and
Tommy Kaufman. It brings toolsy players who can pitch, hit, and play plus defense, such as
Cooper Tenney and
Alex Nania. It brings legit power to the lineup, in the form of
William Ho. And it provides incredible depth and talent with players like
Adrian Pineda,
Joshua Barsoian, and
Cole Stein.
The 2025 Stanford Club Baseball team is a complete one. There are powerful and pesky bats all throughout the lineup, players who can flash the leather all over the field, and an arm barn rearing to get going. This team brings both the wisdom of club baseball veterans and the energy of rookies. Yes, the 2025 season represents a changing of the guards and the final bow of one of Stanford Club Baseball's greatest generation of players. But it also provides an opportunity for the next generation to take its first leap towards creating a dynasty of their own.
Players to Watch:
Caden Denning (C, CF): Caden "Daulton Varsho" Denning can truly do it all on the diamond. He plays two of the hardest defensive positions on the diamond with aplomb, constantly showcasing his plus arm gunning down runners trying to advance on him. Add to that his elite bat-to-ball skills, a good amount of pop, and the team's biggest base stealing threat, and you have yourself a true five-tool player. It's no wonder he's gotten All-American honors twice, including a First Team selection this past season.
Evan Schieber (C, 3B):
Evan Schieber, this year's team dictator, looks to terrorize the league the way he terrorizes the team during team wind sprints. Schieber provides an elite eye in the box, posting a .616 OBP last season and leading the team in walks by a wide margin. He rounds out his skillset with plus defense behind the dish, creating a fearsome catching tandem with Denning. Schieber looks to build on his Second Team All-American selection from 2024.
Gabe Seir (SP, IF): Ousted in a coup by Schieber for the presidency this past offseason (aka stepped down voluntarily), Seir brings a fire breathing mentality on the mound of a man with nothing to lose. His rubber arm is capable of throwing a leather ball at extremely high speeds and with perplexing movement, keeping opponents off balance and racking up Ks weekly. Additionally, Seir's bat took a step forward last year, earning him All Conference honors at both SP and 2B. The team's ace looks to finish his Stanford Club Baseball career strong with one last great season.
Elijah Meltzer (SP): This pitching guru enters his third year as a key member of the pitching staff, coming off a season in which he earned All-Conference honors for the first time in his club career. Meltzer constantly confounds opponents with his lively fastball and effectively wild curveball. He and Seir look to be the veteran leaders of a staff that will feature rookie arms, such as
Joseph Seddon and
Tommy Kaufman.
