The Cardinal hosted Chico State in the second match of the Pacific Mountain Rugby Conference for the 2025 season. The Cardinal roster featured eight Cardinal rookies, including lock Caia Costello '25, hooker Nancy Bao '28, and center Cara Feit '25 who earned starting roles. The Cardinal welcomed back #7 Sydney Davis '25 to the pitch in her first match of the winter.
The Cardinal would take a commanding lead early on and not let up playing the Chico territory at every opportunity. Fourteen of the Cardinal's eighteen tries stemmed from linebreaks and the Cardinal converted on nearly 80% of entries into the Wildcat 22 meters. This team recognized twelve different try scorers on the day with a haul to sophomore flanker Ana Palacios '27 who made bold statements on both the attack and defensive end of the ball.
The Cardinal dominated the kicking game with great success either gaining significant territory or regaining possession. While continued work on the defensive end remains warranted throughout the season, the Cardinal's 83% tackle completion rate was on target for the team.
With three remaining matches in conference play to come, Stanford looks to build each week and rise to the level of intensity required for post-season play.Â
The Cardinal will host BYU in an exhibition match on Saturday February 15, 2025 at Steuber Rugby for a 10:00am kickoff welcoming the Cougars back to the Farm since the teams faced off in the 2023 Collegiate playoffs.
