Coaches
The Club Sports Administration handles the hiring of club sport coaches as staff of DAPER. There exist two classifications for coaches: volunteer and paid contingent. Hiring, payment, and participation with the club are contingent upon the completion of the following:
- Successful completion of the Stanford Employment Application
- Successful completion of DAPER hiring paperwork
- Successful verification of background check that includes employment history, national criminal background check, national sex offender registry search and, where applicable, a credit check and/or driving record
- Successful completion of required trainings, certifications, if applicable, and University-mandated trainings assigned by DAPER
Classification of Coaches
- New & Returning Paid Coaches: paid individuals acting in a coaching capacity
- Volunteer Coaches: un-paid individuals acting in a coaching capacity. May be eligible for stipend.
- Guest Coaches: individual acting in a coaching capacity for a temporary period (working one-time occasion, or a week/two)
Returning coach appointments may be extended year-after-year, however it is the club team’s responsibility to notify the Club Sports Administration if they plan to renew coaching appointments for the following year prior to each coach’s yearly appointment expiration date.
Paid Contingent Coach
The criteria below will be used to determine eligibility for a non-exempt club coach to be paid the minimum hourly wage of $19.33 for 2022-23. For coaches making more than $6,500 they will be paid hourly, and in no case can a coach be paid less than the minimum hourly wage of $19.33 per hour equivalent in remuneration. Note: these criteria do not apply to FTE exempt coaches.
Volunteer Coach
The criteria below will be used to determine eligibility for a volunteer club coach to be paid an Honorarium lump sum payment at the conclusion of their respective sport season. Each volunteer club coach will be sent a volunteer form which will outline the process and expectations for that volunteer appointment. Note: the majority of our coaches will be volunteers.

Compensation
Paid appointments are contingent upon the continuing availability of club team funds for the position and on satisfactory work performance. Note: Each club team will determine funds available to offer a coach. Club teams must factor in the yearly fringe/benefits rate on top of all base salaries/wages.
New Coaches
Club sport teams are ultimately responsible for the recruitment, application, and screening process, as well as deciding on a sustainable compensatory wage with bringing on a coach. Club teams must report any individual wanting to serve in a coaching capacity to the Club Sports Administration prior to the individual engaging with the team.
Roster Management
Coaches have the ability to view club rosters once they are registered on DSE. Contact the Club Sports Administration for assistance.
Amenities
As employees of DAPER, club sport coaches may receive access to recreational facilities. Paid contingent coaches may also be eligible for purchasing parking permits through Stanford’s Department of Parking & Transportation Services (P&TS). Teams must contact the Club Sports Administration with these types of requests.
