How to Give - Athletics Development

Alumni, friends, family, or other organizations may choose to give to the team. See below for guidelines on seeking out and accepting gifts to your team.

Our Director of Sport and Youth Programs works closely with the Development team in DAPER to follow donation guidelines. Thus, each team must work through the CSA for approval and assistance before contacting individuals to ask for donations, especially when approaching alumni or others not directly affiliated with its team. Clubs are encouraged to keep a running database of donor contacts.

How to Give - Athletics Development
Donations that go through DAPER or the Club Sport Program qualify as tax-deductible and will receive an acknowledgement from DAPER, then money will be deposited to a club’s development account. The Director of Sport and Youth Programs will let club officers of each team know of any donations that come through the Stanford Athletics Development Office. The information will include donor contact information so that the team can send an acknowledgement to the donor.

Donors can give directly through the Athletics website. The follow steps outline the process:

1. Go to giving.buckcardinal.com
2. Under Direct your gift, please select “Other Stanford Designation” at the end of the list
3. Enter the designated Mens Lacrosse Fund titles and codes. More information on each fund can be found below.
       - Mens Lacrosse Program: HAIPY

4. Complete personal and credit card information and finalize online gift process

For teams that have a development account – whether it be an expendable or endowment account – the funds will be transferred into that account. All other amounts that are not designated will be deposited into the general Club Sports Program development account. Stanford Athletics does NOT keep any percentage of these donations – the entire amount goes to the individual club or Club Sport Program.

How to Give - University Development

All gifts received outside of the DAPER Development portal must be processed by the Office of Development and will be deposited into a group’s ASSU 2800 - General Account. Teams cannot collect donations directly.

Donors can give directly through the university’s Office of Development website. The follow steps outline the process:

  1. Go to give.stanford.com
  2. Under Direct your gift, please select “Other Stanford Designation” at the end of the list
  3. Enter “ASSU: Stanford Men's Lacrosse - 7580
  4. Complete personal and credit card information and finalize online gift process

Club Sports encourages all teams to opt for directing their donations towards their ASSU 2800 General account via Stanford’s Office of Development (OOD) for greater financial flexibility.

Donations that go through OOD qualify as tax-deductible and will receive an acknowledgement from Stanford proper; the money will then be deposited to a club’s ASSU 2800 general account.

Donations will be viewable via reference numbers in the 2800 account deposit description. The information will include the donor name so that the team can reach out to the OOD and send an acknowledgement to the donor.

Other Ways to Give
Donors can give via pledges, phone, mail, or wire transfers as well. Instructions for those methods can be found at the bottom of the give.stanford.edu site. Donors MUST specify the designation as the Club Sports Team name wherever possible, ex: adding the team name to the check memo line.

Important Note Regarding ASSU
The ASSU CANNOT accept any direct donations on behalf of any team. All donations must be processed via the Office of Development (OOD). If a team receives a donation check, it must be forwarded to the OOD for processing. Once OOD processes the donation, they will send a journal transfer to ASSU specifying the team, at which point the funds will be deposited into the team’s 2800 general account. All questions regarding donations should be directed to the OOD.
