Who We Are

Who We Are

The Stanford Ski and Snowboard Team is a community of skiers, snowboarders, and general snow enthusiasts. The team is open to all undergraduate and graduate students at Stanford and boasts about 120 members. We're all here because we love the snow! Anyone who likes strapping stick(s) to their feet and sliding around, however they prefer to do so, is most welcome. Those of us who do compete participate in alpine ski racing, but our league hosts competitions in snowboard racing, freestyle skiing, snowboard freestyle, and Nordic (cross country) skiing, and we can always participate if we have people who want to. Participation in the alpine racing side of the team is done by complete beginners and people with international competition experience. Everyone who wants to give it a try is free to do so, and commit as much or as little as they like. Some of us will spend 40+ days in gates and start 10 races, while others will come to just one training. Whatever you want to get out of your ski season, this is the place to make it happen.

We lease a cabin from November - April in Truckee, which is about a four hour drive from campus in light traffic. From there you have access to several Tahoe area resorts, but most members choose to ski at Palisades Tahoe/Alpine Meadows, which is about a 30-minute drive from the cabin. The alpine team trains at Donner Ski Ranch and Boreal Mountain and races throughout California (but mostly in the Lake Tahoe area). A good showing at our regional championships can earn us entry to Nationals, which can be anywhere in the country. Our competition season goes from January 10 - March 15, but we try to provide training opportunities beyond those limits. During the winter, Stanford ski team members are always excited when it rains on campus because it means buckets of snow in the mountains!

JOIN US

Join our mailing list: “Mountain Love.” We always table with the other club sports at the activities fair, and you can sign up there as well and talk to current members if you want to learn more. We send out instructions for joining the team in early October, and try to finalize our roster about two weeks later. The process of joining involves registering with club sports, paying dues ($500, which pays for the cabin), submitting the paperwork for an Ikon Pass discount if you want one (any Stanford student can receive the discount, and they'll get you a few days at a lot of big resorts, and unlimited days at Palisades/Alpine), and a short Google form so we can get to know you.
