The Stanford Figure Skating Club (SFSC) turned out for the Annual Club Sports banquet and awards on Sunday June 1st. Team members enjoyed the opportunity to come together and to reflect on another successful year of early morning practices, off ice Sundays, and exciting intercollegiate competitions. The team also celebrated the success of two of its members who received Club Sports awards this year.
Elizabeth Hong - Shirley Schoof Club Sports Athlete of the Year
SFSC Co-President
Elizabeth Hong was recognized with 'The 'Shirley Schoof Athlete of the Year,' which honors the standout individual whose exceptional skill, dedication, and performance have distinctly elevated their club sport. Liz received several nominations for her competitive excellence and unwavering dedication to her team, many of whom were there to cheer her on!
Liz, a sophomore, is the first SFSC recipient of the Athlete of the Year award since the Club was recognized as a Club Sport in 2021. In the 2024-25 academic season, Liz won 11 medals and contributed 114 points to the Figure Skating Club's 603 total points, or 19 percent of the team's overall placement scores. She regularly placed alongside elite athletes from Team USA, sweeping Pacific Coast events with wins in Senior Short, Senior Excel, and Junior Free Dance. She hopes to continue integrating new technical content into her programs next season, developing new choreography, and deepening her artistry as she balances her various pursuits.
For her accolades, Liz also will be recognized at the Stanford Athletic Board Awards on June 12th.
Alea Delmastro - Farm Award
Joining Liz on the podium, SFSC Financial Officer
Alea Delmastro received the 'Farm Award,' which is bestowed upon a club sports member who has made significant and selfless contributions not only to their own team but also to the broader club sports program at Stanford.
Alea, a fourth year PhD candidate in Immunology, devoted significant time to ensure that Stanford Club Sports teams were represented throughout the year, overcoming challenges of diminishing resources and oversight. Alea has been a committed member of SFSC and has served on the Club Sports Executive Council as President during 2024-2025 academic year and Financial Officer during the 2023-2024 academic year. She has been instrumental in connecting with ASSU's UGS and GCS to secure funding of $523,185, an increase of 4% from last year. Alea also has helped to bring figure skating to the broader Stanford community, through SFSC's annual Stanford Wide Skate night. Her teammates wrote, "
In every way, Alea has elevated our experience as athletes, teammates, and members of the Stanford community."
Congratulations to all award winners and the Club Sports community as a whole on a successful 2024-25 collegiate season!
